Matt was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA.  He taught Mathematics at Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas, Virginia in 2003-04, where he was the school representative for the Virginia Math League.  He was hired as an Instructor at WVU in 2006 and promoted to Teaching Assistant Professor in 2019.  During his time at WVU, he has served as the Lead Instructor for College Algebra, Pre-Calculus, and Trigonometry, as well as Course Coordinator for Pre-Calculus.  He is currently the Course Coordinator for Trigonometry, as well as for the dual-enrollment courses for Trigonometry (Math 128) and Calculus (Math 153 and Math 154).

While in college, Matt served as Treasurer, Vice President, and President of the Gannon chapter of IEEE.  He is a member of Phi Eta Sigma, Eta Kappa Nu, Kappa Gamma Pi, and Pi Mu Epsilon honors fraternities. He was a finalist for the Eta Kappa Nu Outstanding Senior Award, and received the Founder’s Day Electrical Engineering Award and Archbishop John Mark Gannon Award.

Matt serves as the faculty advisor for the WVU Star Wars Club.  Outside of WVU, Matt spends much of his time doing charity work as a member of the 501st Legion and Rebel Legion.  He has served as President (2016-2018) of the Pennsylvania and Delaware chapter of the Rebel Legion (Ghost Base); costume advisor (2014-2020), Sergeant at Arms (2019-2020), and Vice President (2020-2021) of the Western Pennsylvania chapter of the 501st Legion (Starkiller Garrison); Events Coordinator (2021-present) of the West Virginia chapter of the Rebel Legion (Amancane Base); and President (2022-2023) of the West Virginia chapter of the 501st Legion (Garrison Corellia).
